What mental health resources are available in Ontario for people struggling with gambling-related stress or anxiety?

Gambling-related anxiety and stress are genuinely common — and Ontario has a well-developed, publicly funded support system that most people don't know about. Here's a clear map of what's actually available.
ConnexOntario: Your first call for anything gambling-related
ConnexOntario is a free, confidential service that helps people in Ontario find mental health, addiction, and problem gambling support. It's the most direct route into the province's care system. You can contact them by phone, text, chat, or email any time, day or night, 365 days a year — the number is 1-866-531-2600, or text "connex" to 247247.
What they actually do matters: specialists provide service navigation to connect you with local or provincial problem gambling treatment programs and support groups, match you with programs based on your situation and goals, and offer resources for family members and friends impacted by a loved one's gambling. You don't need a diagnosis to ask for help — if gambling is causing concern or stress, that's enough reason to reach out.
ConnexOntario offers support in more than 130 languages using translation services, so language is rarely a barrier.
CAMH: Specialized clinical treatment
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) provides specialized services for Ontarians whose gambling has led to difficulties in their life — including relationships, finances, self-care, and work. These services are free and support both individuals and family members, with counselling that is primarily group-based. CAMH is Canada's largest mental health teaching hospital and can be reached at 416-535-8501 (press 2 for clinical services) or toll-free at 1-800-463-2338.
Free therapy for anxiety: Ontario Structured Psychotherapy
If the stress or anxiety has grown beyond the gambling itself and is affecting daily life, there's a separate public program worth knowing about. Individuals aged 18 and older can access the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program to get confidential cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and other services free of charge. Sessions can be in-person or virtual, and in some areas clients may self-refer. CBT is particularly relevant here because research shows it is effective for anxiety disorders and stress-related conditions, and can also be helpful in managing gambling behaviours by addressing the thought patterns that drive urges and risky choices.
Health811 and the Government of Ontario directory
Dialling 811 connects you with a registered nurse who can help with any health matter, including anxiety or other mental health concerns — it's a free, secure, confidential service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Ontario government also maintains a Find Mental Health Support page that aggregates provincial services, including free, confidential support for depression, anxiety, addiction, and problem gambling.
If you want to step back from gambling while you work through it
BetGuard is a free, centralized self-exclusion tool from iGaming Ontario. Anyone 19 or older can opt out of all regulated online gambling sites in Ontario in just a few minutes, with no player account required. You choose a timeframe: 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or a custom term. It's available at betguard.ca, with a dedicated support line at 1-833-776-7171. Every legitimate Ontario-regulated online casino displays both the iGaming Ontario and BetGuard logos — those logos are a quick way to confirm you're on a regulated site before you even consider any other step.
One practical note: you don't need a referral to contact ConnexOntario or to access many mental health services in Ontario. You can call, text, or chat directly and get pointed to the right service without going through a doctor first — which makes it genuinely easy to take a first step.
