What happens to my game round if I close the browser or app before the result is settled at an online casino?

Closing your browser mid-spin or dropping your internet connection is one of those things that feels alarming the first time it happens — but the underlying mechanics are more player-friendly than most people expect, especially in Ontario's regulated market.
The game lives on the server, not your screen
All critical functions, including the generation of the outcome of any game, are generated by the gaming system independently of the end player device. That's a hard requirement under the AGCO's standards — which means your phone or laptop is essentially just a display window. The moment you confirm a bet, the wager is locked in on the operator's servers. Whether your browser crashes a second later is irrelevant to the outcome itself.
Bets must be committed before the selection of game elements and associated game outcomes; any wager received after the selection of game elements or associated outcomes shall be voided and returned to the player. So the system won't let a bet land in a grey zone — it's either locked in before the result, or it's returned to you.
What happens when you reconnect
Service interruptions must be responded to in a way that does not disadvantage players. At a minimum, the gaming system must recover from failures that cause interruptions to the game in a timely fashion, and return bets to players where a game cannot be continued after a service interruption.
For all single-player games, a mechanism must be in place to require a player to complete an incomplete game before being allowed to participate in any other games, where possible. In practice, this is why you'll often see a "resume game" prompt when you log back in — the round is held in suspension until you pick up where you left off. OLG confirms this directly: if your game is disconnected while you are playing, this does not have an impact on your odds of triggering the jackpot, and the results of your round can be reviewed in your game history.
The important distinction is between your connection dropping and a broader system failure. If the operator's own system goes down and the round genuinely cannot be completed, the AGCO standard requires your stake be returned. If you simply closed the tab, the round will typically have resolved normally on the server side — you just weren't watching.
If something still looks wrong
Check your game history first; operators are required to keep appropriate, accurate, and complete records of game play history — including games played, amounts bet, amounts won — and current game status (in progress or complete). That log is your first source of truth.
If the account balance or round result still doesn't match what you'd expect, contact the operator's support team with the approximate time of the disconnection. If that doesn't resolve it, the AGCO handles internet gaming complaints directly at agco.ca — regulated Ontario operators are obligated to have a formal dispute process in place.
One practical note: playing on a stable connection (wired or strong Wi-Fi rather than a patchy mobile signal) removes most of this uncertainty entirely. And if you ever want to set session or deposit limits as a guardrail, every registered Ontario operator is required to offer those tools — ConnexOntario (1-866-531-2600) is there if you ever want to talk through your play with someone. Only play on sites showing both the iGaming Ontario and BetGuard logos, which confirm the operator is fully registered and regulated by the AGCO.
